Το Πολιτειακό Πανεπιστήμιο του Γιερεβάν (αρμενικά: Երևանի Պետական Համալսարան, ԵՊՀ‎, Yerevani Petakan Hamalsaran), απλούστερα Πανεπιστήμιο του Γιερεβάν,[1] είναι το παλαιότερο δημόσιο πανεπιστήμιο της Αρμενίας που λειτουργέι ανελλειπώς. Ιδρύθηκε το 1919 και είναι το μεγαλύτερο[2] πανεπιστήμιο της χώρας.[3][4][5] Από τους 3,150 εργζομένους που απασχολεί, οι 1,190 αποτελούν εκπαιδευτικό προσωπικό, το οποίο περιλαμβάνει 25 ακαδημαϊκούς, 130 καθηγητές, 700 αναπληρωτές καθηγητές και 360 βοηθοί λεκτόρων. Το πανεπιστήμιο έχει 400 ερευνητές, 1,350 μεταπτυχιακοί φοιτητές και 8,500 προπτυχιακοί φοιτητές, συμπεριλαμβανομένων 300 αλλοδαπών.[2]

Τα μαθήματα διεξάγονται στα Αρμένικα, όμως υπάρχει δυνατότητα διεξαγωγής τους στα Ρώσικα και στα Αγγλικά για αλλοδαπούς φοιτητές αν υφίσταται ανάγκη. Το ακαδημαϊκό έτος ξεκινά από τη 1 Σεπτεμβρίου και ολοκληρώνεται στις 30 Ιουνίου.

Το 2010, κατατάχθη πρώτο στην Αρμενία με βάση τις ακαδημαΪκές του αποδώσεις, και 954ο στον κόσμο, ανάμεσα στα 20,000 ιδρύματα που συμπεριλήφθηκαν στη λίστα.[6]

Με απόφαση της Κυβέρνησης της Δημοκρατίας της Αρμενίας και τις προσπάθειες του πολιτικού Σιρακάν Τιγκρανιάν, το "Πολιτειακό Πανεπιστήμιο του Γιερεβάν" ιδρύθηκε στις 16 Μαίου 1919 και ο καθηγητής Γιούρι Γκαμπαριάν ορίστηκε ως ο πρώτος Πρύτανης (1919 - 20).

Το πανεπιστήμιο εγκαινιάστηκε επισήμως στις 31 Ιανουαρίου του 1920 σε μια μεγαλοπρεπή τελετή που έλαβε χώρα στην Αλεξανδρούπολη της Αρμενίας (σημερινό Γκιουμρί) με την παρουσία του προθυπουργού Αλεξάντερ Κατισιάν, πολλών κυβερνητικών αξιοματούχων καθώς και των Πρέσβεων της Μεγάλης Βρετανίας, της Γαλλίας και του Ιράν.[7] Στις αρχές, το πανεπιστήμιο στεγαζόταν προσωρινά στο κτήριο της σχολής εμπορίου της Αλεξανδρούπολης (σημερινό τεχνολογικό κέντρο του Γκιούμρι). Η πρώτη διάλεξη διεξήχθη στη 1 Φεβρουαρίου του 1920, από τον ακαδημαϊκό Stepan Malkhasyants.

Στην διάρκεια του πρώτοι ακαδημαίκού έτους, το πανεπιστήμιο είχε ένα μόνο τμήμα Ιστορίας και γλωσσολογίας, με 32 άτομα στο ακαδημαΪκό προσωπικό και 262 φοιτητές. Οι Ιστορικοί Hakob Manandyan και Ashkharbek Kalantar μαζί με τον γλωσσολόγο Manuk Abeghian και τον Stepan Malkhasyants ήταν ανάμεσα στους πρώτους λέκτορες του πανεπιστημίου. Αργότερα στη διάρκεια του ίδιου χρόνου, το πανεπιστήμιο μετεγκαταστάθηκε στο Γιερεβάν, στην οδό Αμποβιάν.

Κατά τη διάρκεια της Σοβιετικής Ένωσης.[Επεξεργασία | επεξεργασία κώδικα]

Μετά την προσάρτηση της Αρμενίας στην Σοβιετική Ένωση τον Δεκέμβριο του 1920, το πανεπιστήμιο έγινε γνωστό ως το "Πανεπιστήμιο των ανθρώπων του Γιερεβάν", με τον Hakob Manandyan ως τον νέο πρύτανη.To 1921 το πανεπιστήμιο απέκτησε 2 καινούριες σχολές: Αυτή των φυσικών επιστημών και των κοινωνικών επιστημών. Τον Οκτώβριο του 1921, 3 ακόμα τμήματα εγκαινιάστηκαν. Η σχολή ανατολικών και τεχνολογικών σπουδών, καθώς και γεωπονίας. Τον Μάρτιο του 1922 ξεκίνησαν την λέιτουργία τους τα τμήματα της Ιατρικής και Παιδαγωγίας, που ακολουθήθηκαν από αυτό της μαιευτικής το 1923.

On October 20, 1923, the university was renamed as the "State University of Armenian Soviet Socialist Republic" to become the "mother university" of Soviet Armenia within the Transcaucasian Socialist Federative Soviet Republic.

  • Science of Law

The Faculty of Law of the Yerevan State University is one of the oldest faculties of Alma Mater with rich educational and scientific traditions formed during 75 years of its history.

Now the YSU Faculty of Law is truly the leader in the field of higher legal education and the main institution preparing the legal cadres in the Republic of Armenia. Within the last 75 years more than 12 000 students graduated from the Faculty being employed by the government agencies, law-enforcing and judicial bodies, as well as banks, international organizations and private business.

The educational process in the YSU Faculty of Law, as in the whole University, consists of three levels: Bachelor's Degree, Master's Degree and Post – Graduate Degree (Aspirantura).

There is also a five-year programme (Law as 2nd specialty) for those who have already diploma of higher education in other fields, as well as extension programme started in 2007.

The Faculty of Law has the following Chairs:

  1. Chair of Theory and History of State and Law,
  2. Chair of Constitutional Law,
  3. Chair of Civil Law,
  4. Chair of Civil Procedure,
  5. Chair of Criminal Law,
  6. Chair of Criminal Procedure and Criminalistics,
  7. Chair of European and International Law.

The Faculty has 1 Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of the RA, 10 Doctors of Law and 50 Candidates of Law.

With a view to organizing effective educational process the Laboratory of Criminalistics, Moot Court Room, as well as the Legal Clinic were established at the Faculty of Law within the last years.

There are also scientific centers functioning at the Faculty: the Center of European Law and Integration, the Center of Criminal-Legal and Criminological Studies, the Center of Environmental Law and the Center of Forensic Expertise.

The Faculty has computer center and electronic law library with 20 computers, as well as a reading room with new publication on different legal topics. The web address of the Faculty is www.law.ysu.am.

Textbooks, manuals, course materials are published in the small printing-house of the Faculty. The Faculty also issues "The Problems of Jurisprudence" quarterly where the scientific articles of law professors and post-graduate students are published.

In addition to research and teaching the Faculty members actively participated and still participate in the constitutional and judicial reforms carried out in the Republic of Armenia.

The YSU Faculty of Law, as an educational and scientific institution, effectively co-operates both with local and foreign scientific centers and institutions, in particular, with the Institute of Philosophy, Sociology and Law of the National Academy of Sciences of the RA, the Center of Constitutional Law, the Scientific and Educational Center of the General Prosecutor's Office of RA, a number of leading law schools of Russian Federation, Europe and the US, as well as with some authoritative international organizations, including UN Representative Office in RA, United States Agency of International Development (USAID), American Bar Association (ABA), Open Society Institute (OSI), etc.

The student life at the Faculty is also very active. The Student Council and the Student Scientific Association organize various scientific-educational (seminars, conferences, competitions, meetings with high officials and famous lawyers, etc.,) and cultural events.

The administration of the Faculty took concrete steps to solve employment issues of the alumni. The Career Center, established and functioning with the active assistance of ABA, provides a permanent link "student-alumnus-employer" and supports them to find an appropriate job.

The Chair of International Relations was founded in 1990 and preserved this status till 1998 (1990– at the Faculty of Oriental Studies, and beginning from 1991–1992 academic year – at the Faculty of History). In 1993 Chair of Theory and History of International Relations was opened to form educational projects and organize the process, which was later renamed a Chair of International Relations and Diplomacy.

According to the decision of YSU Academic Council a new Faculty of International Relations was formed on the 16th of September 1998 based on the Chair of International Relations. The Chair of Political Science, which functioned in the structure of the Faculty of Philosophy that time, joined the Faculty of International Relations Currently three departments function in the structure of this faculty: International Relations, Political Science and Public Management.

This faculty trains highly qualified specialists for diplomatic service, international organizations, and governmental bodies of the republic, as well as for the analytical and research departments of non-governmental organizations.

The faculty comprises three chairs – those of Chair of International Relations and Diplomacy, Political Science and Public Management.

Seven doctors and 23 candidates of sciences, five professors and 14 assistant professors develop the educational process at YSU Faculty of International Relations.

The Preparatory Faculty for Foreign Students was opened in 1961 within the frames of International education of the YSU. The faculty is located in the Avan District of Yerevan.

YSU Library named after Sarkis and Mary Izmirlian

The Yerevan State University Library named after Sarkis and Mary Izmirlian is operating since its inauguration on 28 February 1920.

Since 12 October 1994, the library is housed in a new building within the university complex on the Charents Street, opened on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the university.

On 7 October 1997, the library was named after Sarkis and Mary Izmirlian (the parents of the Swiss-Armenian benefactor Dikran Izmirlian).

In 2015, the "alley of gratitude" was opened at the entrance of the library, in memory of all the great people who have expressed the pro-Armenia positions during and after the Armenian Genocide, including European and American intellectuals, political and cultural figures, etc.

YSU publishing house[Επεξεργασία | επεξεργασία κώδικα]

Upon its inauguration on January 31, 1920, the university published the first issue of its newspaper called the "University of Armenia", laying the foundation for the establishment of the publishing house of the university. During the same year, the university published its first book in Alexandrapol, which was The Principles of Psychology of William James.

Throughout the 9 decades of its existence, YSU Publishing House has published more than 5,500 books.

Currently, the publishing house is headed by Candidate of Philological Sciences Karen Grigoryan.

Monthly newspaper[Επεξεργασία | επεξεργασία κώδικα]

The university publishes its newspaper "University of Yerevan" (αρμενικά: Երևանի համալսարան‎‎, Yerevani hamalsaran) on a monthly basis.[2]

Armenian Egyptology Centre[Επεξεργασία | επεξεργασία κώδικα]

Since 2006 there is an institute focusing on Egyptology with 3 full-time members.

Diaspora Summer School[Επεξεργασία | επεξεργασία κώδικα]

The "Diaspora Summer School" is a joint project launched in 2016, initiated by the Ministry of Diaspora of Armenia, in association with the Yerevan State University. The programme is designated towards the preservation and reinforcement of the Armenian identity within communities of the Armenian Diaspora, as well as to raise the proficiency level of the Armenian language among the young generation of Armenians abroad. The school programme also includes the re-qualification of teachers of Armenian community schools, directors of cultural groups, the activities of Armenian multimedia and youth organizations of the Armenian Diaspora.[3]
