English: Singing bird box model nº 11 by the French automata maker Bontems, circa 1890. Fitted with a going-barrel movement. The full-bodied bird with spiral legs exhibits multi-coloured layered feathered plumage with predominant tones of green and red complemented with also green, red, orange and blue iridescent hummingbird feathers, giving as a result a well-combined palette of colours. They were dressed by hand so no two birds look exactly alike. The birds made by Bontems in this period are the most detailed and proportionate they ever made. It goes up and down, moving bone beak, wings and tailfeather to continuous realistic birdsong, rising through finely pierced and tooled gilt grille. Plain polished silver gilt matt finished lid interior, while the exterior shows a pair of hand-engraved birds, foliage and floral decoration framed by a plain oval border, in highly polished tortoiseshell case with a small hinged compartment to rear, matching gilt start/stop button to front-right. The top interior of the case has been shaved, getting a semi-transparent look with a rich variety of tones and shades of honey, brown and amber colours, which allows to see part of the mechanism in action. El ave exhibe plumaje de colibrí con colores predominantes en verde y rojo complementados asimismo con verde, rojo, naranja, amarillo y azul iridiscentes, pico de hueso o marfil y patas de alambre en espiral. Estos autómatas eran adornados a mano, por lo que no hay dos iguales. Los pajarillos elaborados por Bontems durante esta época son los más detallados y proporcionados que hicieron. Mientras canta, el autómata se mueve ligeramente de arriba a abajo, abre y cierra el pico, bate las alas y mueve la cola, surgiendo a través de una rejilla finamente labrada. Caja con forma de tabaquera de auténtico carey pulido (con pequeño compartimento en la parte trasera), la cual muestra en su parte superior un medallón ovalado de plata dorada donde se representa una composición formada por una pareja de aves (simbolizando la fidelidad) y decoración vegetal a base de ramas con hojas y flores grabadas a mano, todo ello enmarcado por un marco igualmente ovalado. Palanca de mando de latón situada en la parte frontal derecha. La parte superior interna de la caja ha sido rebajada en grosor, lo cual permite apreciar toda una serie de matices y tonalidades en colores ámbar y marrón, incluso puede observarse parte de la maquinaria en funcionamiento. Teniendo en cuenta que cada caparazón de tortuga es diferente y que los artesanos trabajaban cada caja de manera individual dándole distintos acabados, no hay dos que sean idénticas.
