Ο Νικόλαος Καλλιάκης[3] (Nicolaus Calliachius) (1645[4] - 1707) υπήρξε Κρητικός[5] λόγιος και φιλόσοφος που άκμασε στην Ιταλία τον 17ο αιώνα. Αναγορεύτηκε διδάκτωρ της φιλοσοφίας και θεολογίας στην Ρώμη[6], καθηγητής πανεπιστημίου των Ελληνικών και Λατινικών[7] και της αριστοτελικής φιλοσοφίας[8] στην Βενετία το 1666 και καθηγητής των καλών γραμμάτων (belles-lettres)[8] και ρητορικής[7] στην Πάδοβα το 1667.

Γεννήθηκε το 1645[4] στον Χάνδακα (Ηράκλειο) της Κρήτης. Η καταγωγή του ήταν κρητική.[1][5][9][10][11] Κατέφυγε στην Ρώμη όπου διέμεινε επί δέκα χρόνια, διαπρέποντας ως ένας από τους πιο έξοχους διδασκάλους της ελληνικής και λατινικής γλώσσας.[12] Αναγορεύτηκε διδάκτωρ της φιλοσοφίας και θεολογίας.[13] Πήγε στην Βενετία το 1666 όπου αναγορεύτηκε καθηγητής της αριστοτελικής φιλοσοφίας[14] και της ελληνικής και λατινικής γλώσσας.[7] Έγινε διευθυντής του Ελληνομουσείου Φλαγγίνη από το 1665 ως το 1676.[15] Το 1677 δέχτηκε την πρόσκληση για την Πάδουα και ανέλαβε την έδρα του καθηγητή των καλών γραμμάτων (belles-lettres)[11] και της φιλοσοφίας και ρητορικής.[7] Συνέγραψε διατριβή περί των αρχαιοτήτων της Ελλάδας και της Ρώμης και σπούδασε τον χορό στην κλασική αρχαιότητα. Κύριο έργο του ήταν το De ludis scenicis mimorum et pantomimorum syntagma.[5] Στην Πάδουα παρέμεινε ως τον θάνατό του το 1707.[7]
